Writers Bloc

The new “Writers Bloc” sculpture was revealed at the launch of the Wondrous Place gallery at the Museum of Liverpool recently. The updated gallery celebrates the city’s staggering roll call of trailblazing entertainers, musicians, sports people, writers, poets, visual artists and comedians, the gallery continues to showcase Liverpool’s internationally recognised creative expression and influence through exciting new displays and immersive experiences.

It was an honour to create this new work commissioned by the Museum of Liverpool to celebrate 21 years of Writing on the Wall, Liverpool’s longest-running writing and literary organisation and festival. The sculpture is constructed using recycled paper and cardboard and the design features the name and logo of WoW, alongside an imaginary block of flats bursting with creativity, where past and present writers reside. The cardboard structure is covered with layers of paper mache using the wide array of past flyers and book pages from the past 21 years of WoW. Too many great writers to fit on one sculpture!

View the sculpture plus other amazing objects in the Wondrous Place Gallery, Musuem of Liverpool, Pier Head Liverpool from 26th November 2021 onwards.
