workshops
I have extensive experience of working with adults and children to develop their creativity, confidence and technical skills. I enjoy developing and leading both individual and group projects exploring specific issues and themes.
The activities are tailored to the age and ability of participants.

For construction of temporary sculptures I mainly use newspaper, cardboard, sticks, wire and reclaimed materials. Colour is introduced using paper mache or adhesive vinyl.

‘St Lucia’ 10 day residency at Woodchurch Primary to create a large mixed media installation based on St Lucia, with Year 1 & 2. A Creative Partnerships funded project. June 2005

 

‘The wave of hope’ Sculpture created with 150 secondary pupils over four days at South Wirral Arts College arts festival. July 2005

 

‘Inspired Responses’ exhibition at The Brindley, Runcorn. Exhibited own work alongside students work; created during and after the artist led workshop sessions at local schools. Halton Borough Council, arts service project. Nov 2005

 

‘Through the eyes of children’ (Entitlement 5) Cheshire County Council project. KS1 & 2 Workshops tailored to the national curriculum, with eight Primary Schools across the county. Nov 2005 – May 2006 Exhibition of results at Woodford Lodge Art Gallery, Winsford – May 2006

   

 

Partnership projects with arts and community organisations


Huyton Neighbourhood - working with local children to create temporary decorations for the exterior of River Alt Resource Centre. The umbrellas encompassed each neighbourhood groups themes. Summer 2004.

Rotunda - One Big Faith - Rotunda Community College project funded by Capital of Culture. Workshops with St Gerards School pupils creating multi faith sculpture for performance at Hope College June 2004.

 

Glitter Bugs - Click to View
Liverpool City Council Capital of Culture judges visit - G-litter bugs built around old shopping trolleys and recycled materials. Used in city centre procession part of cleaning up the city for the Capital of Culture judges visit. Workshops with adults from Rotunda Community College & boys from Campion High School. Artist led Project funded by Liverpool City Council 2003

 
Halloween Lantern Carnival 2005 - Liverpool Part of team of Lead Artists creating large scale sculptural lanterns for Liverpool Lantern Company. Large lantern procession through Sefton Park, culminating in a pyrotechnic finale on and around Sefton Park Lake with estimated audience of 4000 people. Oct 2005. Photo by Mark Loudon.

STAMP - Slave Trade Arts Memorial Project led by Black Arts Alliance. Workshops alongside other artists, writers, and musicians in Lancaster schools. Focussing on the experience of slavery by pupils creating ‘shackles’. Workshop outcomes informed a permanent memorial artwork. 2004 – 05

Knowsley MBC Project  - Click to View
Knowsley MBC Project involving ten infant schools - All inclusive arch residency at Knowsley Support Centre with eight local school groups including pupils with special needs. Funded by Knowsley Borough Council 2003.

 


‘Knowsley Arts Service & SureStart Book Project’ Pilot project leading workshops with early years groups producing characters from classic stories ie .Billy Goats Gruff. Includes training session for nursery staff and collaborating with a den maker and a drama specialist. Activities and outcomes documented for a project book ‘I can, you can’. Also piloting new Knowsley Participation Standards for children’s involvement. Jan – May 2005

 


Early Years Workshops for Cheshire Rural Touring Network, Cheshire County Council Arts Service. Created characters based on touring theatre productions seen by the children – ‘Sonya’s Garden’ by M6 Theatre Company and ‘Grubs, Slugs and Boogie Bugs’ play for 2- 5yr olds by Half Moon Young People’s Theatre Company. May 2005
